The Red Lion dates from the early 17 hundreds, with big open fires, tankards hanging above the bar, rugs on flagstones, bare woodern floors-not alot has changed. Sit down to fine, home cooked food amid timber frames, old settles, a row of branding irons and some bizare farming tools on display. Climb the stairs to bedrooms in a georgan style; with old oak dressers, half testers, antique furniture and a beam or two. Set in the beutilfully presserved national trust village of Lacock, around its 13th century abbey, the Red Lion offers a peaceful, welcome retreat for weekend getaways or longer breaks.
The Red Lion is an ideal base for exploring Wiltshire and the South, nearby attractions are Stonehenge, Longleat house and Gardens, Castle Coombe, Bath, Bristol and Glastonbury. | Red Lion
