Mortons House is one of the earliest in Corfe and perhaps the finest. Dating back to circa 1590, the house was originally known as 'Dacombs', after William Dacomb. Mortons House is a sixteenth century Elizabethan Manor, formerly linked by underground tunnels to Corfe Castle. Mortons offers both the history and charm of a private country house, built in 1590 in the shape of an ëEí to honour Queen Elizabeth I and extended in 1666 with stone from the castle. The walled gardens overlook the thatched roofs of the village with easy access to the old steam railway. The imposing entrance hall has the original minster stone fireplace and leads to a magnificent oak-panelled drawing room lined with exotic friezes which were carved by Indonesian sailors. Mortons House has 17 en suite bedrooms each with its own charm and character. The restaurant has been accredited with 2 AA Rosettes and is proud of its traditional English cuisine and excellent wine list.
